About This Chemistry PYQ Book
If you're preparing for the RBSE Class 12 Chemistry board exam, the fastest way to know what will be asked is to look at what has already been asked. RBSE Class 12 Chemistry syllabus 2025–26: chapter list and marks weightage
The current Rationalised NCERT syllabus has 10 chapters. Below is the approximate mark distribution based on the last five years of RBSE board papers. Weightage varies by 2–3 marks year to year, but the pattern is stable.

Chapters 7 and 8 together carry the highest weightage, roughly a quarter of the paper. Chapter 4 (d and f block) is the highest scoring chapter for its size because the questions repeat almost verbatim year to year.
Which chapters give the fastest marks
If you are short on time and want a strategy, here is how experienced Chemistry teachers rank the chapters by return on effort:
Do first (high return, low effort): d and f Block Elements, Biomolecules, Coordination Compounds. These are mostly reading. Learn the colours of transition metal ions, the IUPAC naming rules, and structures of glucose, fructose and amino acids, and you can secure 12 to 15 marks.
Do next (medium effort, high marks): Solutions, Chemical Kinetics, Electrochemistry. Numerical chapters. Practice the same three or four types of problems repeatedly. Nernst equation, rate law, molality/molarity, and boiling/freezing point elevation questions appear every year.
Do carefully (high effort, high marks): Haloalkanes, Alcohols and Phenols, Aldehydes and Ketones, Amines. This is where named reactions live. Aldol, Cannizzaro, Hoffmann bromamide, Gabriel synthesis, Reimer-Tiemann, Kolbe. Make a one-page reactions chart per chapter and revise it every three days.
Repeated questions in RBSE Chemistry: what to expect
After going through 13 years of papers, certain questions come back so often they are almost guaranteed. A few examples:
- Nernst equation numerical — asked in some form in 11 of the last 13 years
- IUPAC naming of a coordination compound — every year
- Distinguishing between aldehydes and ketones (Tollens or Fehling test) — 9 of 13 years
- Preparation of aniline or a substituted amine — 8 of 13 years
- Order of reaction from given data — 7 of 13 years
- Structure of glucose or its reactions with HCN / NH₂OH — 7 of 13 years
- Reason for lanthanoid contraction — 6 of 13 years
